Thanks to the efforts of Leadership California alumnae Nancy DiLella (’16), Leadership California Vice President and Vice President Corporate Law, Genentech; and Britt Kopping, Director, Learning, Design and Technology (’18), the 2019 CIT class was given the unique opportunity to tour operations of one of the world’s leading biotechnology companies – Genentech.  One thing was clear throughout– the company is all about the science, patients and people.

The Genentech visit began with a presentation about the company, followed by a panel of employees who discussed topics from drug pricing and research to leadership development. Panelists included two more Leadership California alumnae Emily Stauffer (’14) and Quita Highsmith (’13), who were joined by other Genentech team members. During the panel, the Class heard about the life transforming medicines the company develops and its approach to disrupting the landscape of drug development. The panel shared that Genentech provided more than 65,000 patients with critical drugs at no cost.

Following the panel, CIT participants donned white lab coats and safety goggles for a special lab visit. The tour included a look at the labs where intricate processes create life-changing and saving medicines.
